24-year-old Sgt. Bianca Hayden has been in the Army National Guardfor almost seven years. She spent time in Afghanistan, Germany, and Poland. While in Poland, she broke her shoulder, leading to two shoulder surgeries and nearly two years at the JBLM SRU.
During her recovery she worked in adaptive sports and was able to recover and return to duty. The JBLM was able to make Sgt. Hayden an one armed rower and taught her how to row, which has now
become one of her favorite activities. Along with the physical training, her time at the SRU inspired her to learn more about her injury and recovery. She became a certified personal trainer and develops
adaptive workouts. Competing in the Warrior Games and Invictus in 2024 was an honor to her and really showed, that despite the set backs, anything is achievable.

“During my recovery, I worked in adaptive sports and was able to recover and return to duty. Competing in the Warrior Games and Invictus in 2024 was an honor for myself and really showed that, despite the setbacks, anything is achievable.”
