During the bench press, athletes must lower the bar to the chest, hold it motionless on the chest, and then press it upward to arm’s length with locked elbows.
Bench press is the sport's single discipline and is open to male and female athletes.
Athletes compete solely by body weight divisions regardless of functional ability. There are four weight categories per gender - Women up to 55kg, 67kg, 86kg, and 86kg+; Men – up to 72kg, 88kg, 107kg, 107kg+.
