The Warrior Games and Disney Celebrate 1-Year to Go Until the 2027 Games!

On August 7, 2026, the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort buzzed with anticipation as the Department of War celebrated the “One Year to Go” milestone for the 2027 Warrior Games, which are officially scheduled to take place from August 7–14, 2027. Returning to the Orlando area for the third time, this premier adaptive sports event will bring together nearly 200 wounded, ill, and injured service members and veterans representing the Army, Marine Corps, Navy/Coast Guard, Air Force/Space Force, and Special Operations Command (SOCOM) on their collective journeys of recovery.
During the opening remarks, Warrior Games Program Manager Lettie Williams introduced the 2027 theme, “Ignite the Spirit,” representing the spark of hope and determination that fuels recovery, and officially announced that adaptive pickleball will debut as the Games’ 12th official medal sport following last year’s highly successful exhibition. To celebrate, former Warrior Games competitors took to the court for a lively, hands-on pickleball demonstration alongside media and guests. The morning highlighted strong community and sponsor support, featuring remarks from Disney Sports VP Adam Ball, Fisher House Foundation President David Coker, and Wounded Warrior Project Chief Program Officer Jennifer Silva, along with moving personal remarks from Master Sgt. Mike Haley on the restorative power of adaptive sports.
This event officially kicked off the countdown to the 2027 Warrior Games, which is free and open to the public, with nearly all sports taking place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
