On Thursday, February 23, 2023, I departed MCAS YUMA AZ, heading home to French Valley, California, for a 72-hour liberty. Opting for a different route through Ocotillo Wells to avoid snowy conditions on Highway 8 West, I encountered similar weather and lost control of my vehicle due to black ice, resulting in a severe accident near Warner Springs, California. After calling 911, three gentlemen and a Riverside Sheriff stopped to assist me, providing warmth and calling emergency services. Paramedics swiftly transported me to Southwest Inland Valley Medical Hospital, where I spent 15 days recovering from injuries including broken bones and internal bleeding. Now, attached to the Wounded Warrior Battalion West I am currently complying with a specific comprehensive recovery plan and meeting all follow up appointments as required in order to get better both mental and physically striving for improvement each day.
