Master Sgt. Jodi Pyle-Vandersys has served 32 years in the Active Component, Colorado Army National Guard, and the Army Reserves, where she has spent a majority of her time in the service. The 50-year-old deployed to Iraq in 2003, Afghanistan in 2010 with the
COARNG, and her final deployment was a state side mobilization to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX.
Fort Sam Houston is where Master Sgt. Pyle-Vandersys would find herself with both arms broken after suffering a fall from the back of military truck. Jodi was still recovering from contracting Murina
Typhus, which sent her to spending six days in the ICU. She found herself not only going back home to Colorado Springs, but also being assigned to the Fort Carson SRU to recover and heal from injuries.
Adaptive sports helped her find a renewed sense of purpose helping fellow Soldiers find their purpose. At the Fort Carson SRU, she continues to demonstrate why the SRU’s are an important part of the Army, and just because a Soldier is broken, does not mean that they are disposable.
Quote:
“At the Fort Carson SRU, I continue to see why the SRU’s are an important part of the Army.”
