Capt. Vanessa Munro was commissioned as a Field Artillery officer in 2018 after completing ROTC at the University of Washington. After four years in her branch, she was selected for the Army’s Interservice Physician Assistant Program. However, On Dec. 29, 2023, while on the route to begin her clinical training, Munro was involved in a catastrophic car accident on her way to clinical training resulted in a severe traumatic brain injury, requiring brain surgery, and an extended coma. Following months of hospitalization and intensive rehabilitation at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Munro worked through the physical and emotional challenges. Her therapy included occupational, physical, and speech sessions, with swimming becoming a source of profound joy. A year after the accident, she tried adaptive skiing, which reignited her sense of freedom and confidence. From there, she progressed to walking, running, and cycling. In the past year, Munro has completed a 5K, a triathlon, and the Army Ten-Miler. She now looks forward to competing in the Warrior Games as she continues to push her limits and redefine what is possible.
