Operations Specialist Second Class Tiffany Clark joined the military intending to do 20 years in service to her country. Around 2016 she tore her ACL, made a full recovery and returned to duty. In 2021, her command played a game of COVID-safe no-touch ultimate frisbee for PT. About 15 minutes before the end of the game, she tore her ACL completely through and needed intensive surgery and needed to relearn to walk.
She was eventually referred into Navy Wounded Warrior and took full advantage of the program’s many services to help with mental-health counseling, housing, childcare, and transitioning back to civilian life. She was hesitant to join the adaptive sports program until she heard OS1 Travis Wyatt (ret.), now one of her teammates, talk about his experience with Team Navy. She attended her first camp in January 2023 and it changed her life.
“The first time I ran at the January camp, I cried,” she said. “I used to run 5Ks. I gave up doing things I loved because I was scared I would reinjure myself. After surgery, my thigh atrophied. I didn’t think I would ever run again.”
At the 2024 Warrior Games, Clark will compete in field, powerlifting, sitting volleyball, swimming, and track.
