Intelligence Specialist Third Class Gabriella “Gaby” Zamora began her adaptive sports journey six months into her stay at Water Reed Medical National Military Medical Center. Complications from a routine surgery almost cost her an arm. Doctors were able to save it, but some muscles died in the process. She was in-patient for more than a month and needed to learn to write, walk, and talk again. Over the past three years, she’s had almost three dozen surgeries.
“Sports gave me a reason to keep going. The many trip to camps gave me something to look forward to when I was at a point in my life when I thought I wouldn’t make it, mentally.”
At the 2024 Warrior Games, Zamora will compete in archery, indoor rowing, shooting, sitting volleyball, and track.
