Airman Abigail Garcia joined Navy Wounded Warrior’s adaptive sports program in January 2024 at the suggestion of her care team at Navy Medical Center San Diego.
“While I’m still on a journey of healing, I’m grateful for the support I’ve received. Navy Wounded Warrior really helped me build a community and find others like me.”
Garcia developed debilitating chronic pelvic and back pain, as well as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as a survivor of sexual assault. She stresses the importance of talking about mental and physical health in an effort to reduce stigma and encourage others to find help.
“I’m happy I’m still here to experience life with my family and friends. Now I get to spend my days being a mom to my child and two German shepherds.”
At the 2024 Warrior Games, Garcia will compete in cycling, shooting, swimming, and track.
