RDML Edward “Teddy” St. Pierre has served in the Coast Guard for nearly 30 years, with 16 duty stations in his career. As he was approaching retirement, life threw him a curveball, with a diagnosis of atypical early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
Following his diagnosis, St. Pierre’s career and family life were filled with unknowns. He enrolled in Navy Wounded Warrior at Naval Medical Center San Diego and they have helped his family prepare for transition into retirement in Florida. While the rest of the world focused on the things that St. Pierre would be losing, adaptive sports focused on what he still retained. He attended his first adaptive sports camp in February 2023 and it rekindled a spark within him.
St. Pierre competed in the 2023 Warrior Games Challenge and medaled in swimming and track. At the 2024 Warrior Games, St. Pierre will compete in cycling, indoor rowing, swimming, and track.
