Logistics Specialist Second Class Rachel Andrea “Iggy” Iglesias (ret.) joined the navy in September 2014 to follow her grandpa’s footsteps. She wanted to travel the world and was stationed in Virginia, Hawaii, and Washington State. She most enjoyed meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures as part of her military experience.
Rachel decided to join the Navy’s adaptive sports program after seeing other individuals with disabilities excelling in sports and living active and fulfilling lives. She credits adaptive sports with helping her regain her confidence, physical strength, and sense of identity.
“I was inspired by their determination, resilience, and positive attitudes towards overcoming challenges,” she said. “I realized that I didn’t have to let my disability define me or limit my abilities. I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone and prove to myself that I could still lead an active and fulfilling life, despite my disability.”
At the 2024 Warrior Games, Iglesias will compete in cycling, field, and shooting.
