Berenice Carmona

Berenice Carmona was sent to the SRU due to an injury sustained on my left knee while deployed, commencing my journey to recovery. Naively, Ms. Carmona figured she would have surgery, and things would go back to normal in a couple of months. Berenice was unaware of the many changes her injury would bring, which resulted in early retirement and permanent physical limitations. Berenice always been passionate about physical activity, i.e., sports; therefore, Berenice felt inadequate when she could no longer train, play, or compete. It was when she was allowed to compete in the Commander’s Cup as a soldier in recovery that she discovered that she could continue to train, play, and compete. Only now would it be adaptive to my limitations. Competing at the Warrior games for Team Army this year would bring her great pride and corroborate her future career and lifestyle aspirations, tailored towards physical activity with limitations. Without the AR team’s coaching, mentorship and unwavering support, Berenice would not find herself in this opportunity, determined, motivated, and hopeful about her future.
