1st Lt. Matthew Hovey is from Fredericksburg, VA. With six years of service, including a deployment to Iraq and Syria under Operation Inherent Resolve, his military journey was sparked by the 2017 North Korean missile crisis, leading him through Officer Candidate School and the Field Artillery Basic Officer Leadership Course. Hovey’s experiences range from responding to the January 6th Capitol riots to overcoming challenges at the Soldier Recovery Unit, where he now focuses on healing and reintegration. Inspired by past participants and Adaptive Reconditioning Contractors, Hovey is excited about conquering the DOD Warrior Games, aiming to surpass his limits and thrive in the camaraderie of fellow competitors. His athletic background spans wrestling, track, football, soccer, and, more recently, adapting my training to include trail running, recumbent biking, and swimming to prepare for the Games despite injuries. “Drawing inspiration from figures like Tim Kennedy, Joe Rogan, Dr. Andrew Huberman, and David Goggins, He is motivated by their stories of resilience and excellence. As Hovey prepares to represent Fort Belvoir and Team Army, he is grateful for the support from the Soldier Recovery Unit, his coaches, and his teammates. The Warrior Games symbolize more than competition; they celebrate resilience, strength, and the spirit of service. He is committed to giving his all and making the Army proud.
