Brooke Jader was sent to the SRU because of two separate concerns: a possible thymoma and jugular swelling. She went to multiple appointments to diagnose her with a benign thymoma and bilateral vascular thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS). Brooke had undergone one surgery, thus far, to remove her right first rib to alleviate pressure on my vein. Her life has changed since undergoing a med board, but she thinks the effects of surgery and further care are in her favor.
Brooke’s experience at the SRU has been long but fulfilling. The staff and cadre has been very helpful, caring, and concerned with my health and well-being. The SRU also requires ARP activities. These activities offer opportunities for soldiers to foster new friendships, try new things, and fill their time with quality experiences. Brooke really loves the ARP activities because she has discovered many new team sports: wheelchair rugby, wheelchair basketball, and seated volleyball. Her absolute favorite is wheelchair rugby.
Brooke would love to compete at the 2024 Warrior Games for Team Army because she wants to show people what she can do and what anyone can accomplish despite setbacks to their health. The goal of competing in the Warrior Games came to fruition after two of my friends competed in 2023. She has been striving for the chance to compete since.
Brooke would like to thank all of the staff and cadre at the Ft. Riley SRU, my friends and family, and my husband, Jay.
