Hannah Wright

Before 1st Lt. Hannah Wright came to the SRU, she was an Executive Officer for a Light Infantry Company and was excited to continue her career at her unit. A visit with Wright’s doctor on January 4th, 2023, upended those plans when she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. Within 7 days she said goodbye to her Soldiers, and started treatment, Wright heard about the SRU for the first time. Her time at JBSA has been instrumental in her recovery since surgery and chemotherapy mentally, emotionally, and physically. Her oncologist told her that it was time for the Army to take care of her and that’s exactly what has happened. Her OT/PT team introduced her to adaptive sports and encouraged her from the beginning to compete, they knew how much she missed and needed a place to place her competitive energy after being out of her element for so long. Working towards competing in the games has reinvigorated Wright’s confidence in herself, even after the permanent change she has experienced.
