Jasmin McKenzie

MSG Jasmin McKenzie spent the last year and a half between the Schofield Barracks and Ft Belvoir Soldier Recovery Units. She’s served in the active Army for 19 years as a Culinarian. “McKenzie was sexually assaulted, which resulted in a TBI, severe PTSD, and severe anxiety. She also has ongoing wrist injuries and surgeries. Her life was completely turned upside down because of the assault. The SRU has helped her immensely. McKenzie became extremely introverted and scared. With the help of the SRU and my providers, she has been able to overcome so much and get back to my regular self.” Adaptive sports and trying out to be on Team Army have been instrumental in helping her overcome trauma. She says it is something she will live with forever but will not wallow in forever. “The SRU and the leadership have supported me and helped me heal. In sharing her story, she has found healing in helping others, and my motivation for the Army has returned.” MSG McKenzie received the all-clear to return to duty soon.
