Information System Technician Second Class Ainesey “Iggy” Inguanzo joined the Navy in 2017 because she wanted a career where she could help people. She participated in NJROTC in high school where she learned about all the ways she can serve through the military. The travel was a bonus! She received several awards for service, including a Navy and Marine Corpss Achievement Medal and a Navy Expeditionary Medal. She also held a number of leadership roles during various missions and deployments. “I am proud of the relationships I built with my fellow service members and the impact I was able to make in the communities we served.” After her injury, Inguanzo found Navy Wounded Warrior in an online search for resources and enrolled herself. Her care team knew she loved to hike, explore the outdoors, and stay active, and suggested that she try adaptive sports in her recovery. She attended her first camp in 2024 and came to love sitting volleyball. She went on to compete in the 2024 Warrior Games in Orlando, Fla., and has taken on a mentorship role this year for the team rookies. Being part of Team Navy has given her a sense of purpose and fulfillment in life. “Navy Wounded Warrior has greatly improved my quality of life by providing me with a supportive community of fellow service members who understand the challenges of being injured. They have helped me navigate the complexities of living with disabilities and have pushed me to adapt and thrive in new ways.”
