James Garza

Hospital Corpsman Second Class James Garza joined the Navy in 2016 because he wanted to show his son that it’s never too late to take control of your own story. He left his predestined life in his hometown and sought new adventures, not only to make a change, but be the change. While in the service, he earned his associate’s degree in heath science and a number of medical certifications, and he started working on his bachelor’s of business administration in healthcare management. His Navy Wounded Warrior care team encouraged him to try adaptive sports. He was drawn to the promise of camaraderie, creating a network with other service members, and finding sportsmanship from being on a team again. There, he found a new love for wheelchair basketball. When he’s away from adaptive sports, Garza loves to play the drums and both electric and acoustic guitar.
