Retired Cryptological Technician Collection 2nd Class Bri Girard didn’t feel like college was for her. She joined the Navy in 2021 because she wanted to learn some of the professional skills the Navy could provide her and knew that the sea services could set her up for future success. Her life changed in a heartbeat when she was in a catastrophic accident while riding motocross with friends. Her vehicle malfunctioned, she launched from it and landed outside of the track. Her complex injuries resulted in markedly reduced mobility, but she has not let that slow her down. After she finished rehab, her Navy Wounded Warrior Care team told her about the adaptive sports program and she attended her first camp in January 2025. She wanted to get stronger and push herself to be improve. She most loved swimming again because floating is so freeing and it helps her forget her disability. She credits the friends she’s made through Navy Wounded Warrior with keeping her motivated to keep training. This year marks her return to the Warrior Games after earning gold medals in cycling, swimming, and track, as well as a silver medal in archery in 2025. Outside of adaptive sports, Girard enjoys coloring for relaxation, as well as fishing and being outdoors.
