Retired Chief Hospital Corpsman Cesar Borrero was drawn to join the Navy in 2000 because he craved the sense of purpose that comes with the military lifestyle. He saw a stable and structured career that would give him space to grow and become part of something bigger than himself. During his 25-year career, he lived all over the world with his family, creating strong formative memories together as they experienced new cultures and ways of life. Ultimately, his combat-related injuries and years of physical wear caught up with him. While he was on limited duty, a friend suggested that he should contact Navy Wounded Warrior for more personalized support. Borrero attended his first camp in 2025 and discovered a newfound love for sitting volleyball. He went on to compete in the 2025 Warrior Games in Colorado Springs, Colo. and took gold in powerlifting and discus throw. This year he returns eager for a repeat in powerlifting, his new favorite because it drives him to push beyond what he once believed his body could handle. Away from the field, Borrero coaches his daughter in soccer and volleyball, as well as woodworking in his garage.
